Azteca Enterprises, Inc. recently completed the construction and finish-out of the World’s Largest Duty-Free store inside DFW International Airport Terminal D. The beautiful store includes massive digital displays that feature advertisements from some of the world’s most high-end brands and provides an immersive experience for travelers and shoppers between gates D22 and D23. Though malls and traditional retail models have struggled in recent years, the duty-free store concept has expanded due to the captive audience of travelers biding their time in airports. The duty-free store provides an additional lounge space to provide respite for travelers on the second floor, mezzanine level, accessible by four staircases and two elevators in 17,400 square feet. The lounge overlooks the concourse, with large-scale artwork by renowned Texas artist James Surls anchoring the space. The design of the store compares with the highest levels of luxury retail experiences. Construction was challenging due to the need to reinforce the floors to support the two-story structure and display cases.
