NYLO (now Canvas) Southside Hotel
The original structure built in 1911 was named the Coffin Building an encompassed showroom and fabrication facilities for manufacturing caskets. Sears & Roebucks acquired the building in the 1960’s and from there shipped catalog ordered appliances to customers. Matthews Southwest gained ownership of the property with their acquisition of the Sears campus. The building is on the National Historic Register.
Azteca Enterprises, Inc. renovated the historic building into a 76 guestroom boutique hotel with three separate food and beverage venues, rooftop lounge and pool. Throughout the hotel’s 5-stories, the hotel features exposed brick and cinder-block giving the spaces a loft, urban aesthetic. Designed to appeal to both business and leisure travelers, the hotel combine the dynamic qualities of urban loft-style living with best-in-industry services and amenities in a boutique setting. The signature cutting-edge design blends an urban, industrial aesthetic with elegance and comfort.
